Bermuda WavesThe song Proud to be Bermudian by John Woolridge reminds us that "our wealth is so much more than blue skies and pink sand . . . the truth is there is more to us". It is easy to find bad news in the paper; wouldn't we rather find things to be proud of? It's time that we stood up for what we think is right, take responsibility for things that are not working, and build a Bermuda we are proud of.

Elliot Primary School is one of eight Bermuda schools to have joined an exciting new programme aimed at promoting sustainability. The internationally-accredited Eco-Schools programme aims to empower students to change the way they live to better help protect the environment for generations to come.

Over the last couple of months I have had the pleasure of doing some work with two of our large primary schools.

The schools are working toward their accreditation as part of an Eco Schools Programme and I have been doing work with them related to energy auditing in the classrooms and common areas of the schools.

The practice of dumping raw sewage just a few hundred yards off Bermuda's pristine beaches has been in effect for generations. But for many people, both here in Bermuda and abroad, it was real news.

Dr David ChapmanDr. David Chapman – who recently earned his PhD through the Royal Holloway University of London following research on renewable energy and its role in sustainable development in small island states — is continuing to share the results of his studies in order to help to positively focus the current developmental trajectory of Bermuda and other similar nations and territories.
