When an environmental sustainable development programme was first implemented in a failing school with a high dropout rate in Puerto Rico, few knew what kind of impact it would have on the students in that community.

airport-dumpThe Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Public Works is advising the public of changes to the tipping fees for the Marsh Folly Composting Facility and the Airport Waste Management Facility which will come into effect on July 1, 2014.

Elliot Primary School is one of eight Bermuda schools to have joined an exciting new programme aimed at promoting sustainability. The internationally-accredited Eco-Schools programme aims to empower students to change the way they live to better help protect the environment for generations to come.

Over the last couple of months I have had the pleasure of doing some work with two of our large primary schools.

The schools are working toward their accreditation as part of an Eco Schools Programme and I have been doing work with them related to energy auditing in the classrooms and common areas of the schools.

Dr David ChapmanDr. David Chapman – who recently earned his PhD through the Royal Holloway University of London following research on renewable energy and its role in sustainable development in small island states — is continuing to share the results of his studies in order to help to positively focus the current developmental trajectory of Bermuda and other similar nations and territories.
