This is the speech given by Acting Mayor, Councillor John Harvey, on the launch of Earth Hour 2016:

"The City of Hamilton recognises the global need for environmental change, and it supports 100% the initiative put forth by the Greenrock Organisation to raise awareness throughout Bermuda that action must be taken to preserve the planet."

"The City of Hamilton encourages all those within the Municipality, including our fine dining establishments, as well as everyone across our Island home to commit to an hour with no power on March 19th from 8:30-9:30pm."

"As in previous years the City of Hamilton will show its commitment by working with the crews from BELCO to turn off the decorative copper lights, the lights in City Parks and at City Hall, as well as the Hamilton Docks. No traffic lights will be affected."

"On behalf of Mayor Gosling I applaud the efforts of Greenrock and all participating partners and organisations in this initiative and encourage everyone to do their part, especially the younger generation who have the opportunity to make a profound change."
