The 2015 Green Workplace Awards were held on Friday, February 19th, kindly hosted by HSBC Bermuda at their Harbourview building.

This now biennial event began in 2011 to both highlight and reward progress towards a more sustainable workplace. Initially an annual event, it was switched to a biennial event as of 2013 as part of a slew of changes to Greenrock at that time.

This years event was well attended, and attendees were treated to an educational 'short' summary of the opportunities represented by the passing of the Electricity Act 2015 by the Minister for Economic Development, Grant Gibbons.

Our hosts HSBC Bermuda, represented by Clesia Realejo, followed this speech with their own announcement concerning the launch of a specific loan available for solar panels and associated energy saving costs. This new special interest rates for residents interested in installing solar panels is designed to help customers offset the cost of the loan with savings on their electricity bill.

The 2015 competition saw a number of strong submissions, and the judges had a hard time selecting an overall winner. In fact, as judge Jeann Nikolai, of the Department of Energy, relayed to the audience, the judges had to create a complex matrix to aid in their decision making!

Ultimately, four Honourable Mentions were recognised:

CHUBB (formerly ACE) www.chubb.com

Poseidon Hotel www.rosedon.com

Hiscox www.hiscox.bm

BHS www.bhs.bm

The overall winner of the 2015 Green Workplace Awards was:

 KPMG www.kpmg.bm

In addition to the celebration of the above participants, another highlight of the evening was the catering by an up and coming local chef, Ashley Tucker, whose creations were based on both local and/or organic ingredients, including the beverage selection!
